Course Description:

The Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) course is an immersive, two-day training experience led by a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST). It is the foundational step to becoming a recognized Scrum Master and a leader in Agile environments.

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Scrum framework, its roles, events, and artifacts, as defined in the official Scrum Guide. Through interactive exercises, facilitated discussions, and real-world simulations, participants will learn how to:

  • Lead and coach a development team in applying Scrum.

  • Help the Product Owner manage the Product Backlog for maximum value.

Course Objective:

The primary objective of the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) Course is to transform participants into effective servant-leaders who can successfully implement and support the Scrum framework within any team or organization.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Master the Scrum Framework: Gain a comprehensive, foundational, and practical understanding of the Scrum roles, events, and artifacts as defined in the official Scrum Guide.

  • Embody the Scrum Master Role: Fulfill the accountabilities of the Scrum Master as a servant-leader by coaching the Development Team, the Product Owner, and the organization on Agile values and principles.

  • Facilitate High-Performing Teams: Learn and apply practical facilitation techniques to effectively run all Scrum Events (Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Retrospective) and coach the team toward self-management and cross-functionality.

  • Resolve Impediments: Proactively identify, address, and remove obstacles (impediments) that prevent the Scrum Team from achieving its Sprint Goal and maintaining optimal performance.

  • Support Value Delivery: Collaborate with the Product Owner to understand and promote effective Product Backlog management and maximize the value delivered by the Development Team.

  • Achieve Certification Eligibility: Satisfy the necessary training requirement (16 hours) to be eligible to take the Scrum Alliance Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) exam and obtain a two-year membership with the Scrum Alliance.

Course Module:

The CSM curriculum is based on the official Scrum Guide and covers the entire Scrum framework, grouped into the following key categories:

1. Lean, Agile, and Scrum Fundamentals

  • Agile Manifesto: Understanding the four values and 12 principles.

  • Scrum Theory: Defining Empirical Process Control (Transparency, Inspection, Adaptation).

  • Scrum Values: Learning the importance of Commitment, Focus, Openness, Respect, and Courage.

2. The Scrum Team (Roles/ Accountability)

  • Scrum Master: Responsibilities as a servant-leader, coach, and impediment remover for the team, Product Owner, and organization.

  • Product Owner: Accountabilities for maximizing product value, Product Backlog management, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Developers: Understanding cross-functionality, self-management, and their accountability for creating a "Done" Increment.

3. Scrum Events (Time-boxed Meetings)

  • The Sprint: The heart of Scrum; a time-box for all other events.

  • Sprint Planning: How to define the Sprint Goal and select Product Backlog Items.

  • Daily Scrum: Facilitating the 15-minute event to inspect progress toward the Sprint Goal.

  • Sprint Review: Presenting the Increment and gathering stakeholder feedback.

  • Sprint Retrospective: The formal opportunity for the Scrum Team to inspect itself and create a plan for improvements.

  • Product Backlog Refinement: Ongoing activities to prepare items for future Sprints.

4. Scrum Artifacts (Commitments)

  • Product Backlog: A prioritized, single source of work for the Scrum Team (with the Product Goal as its commitment).

  • Sprint Backlog: The forecast of work to be done in the Sprint (with the Sprint Goal as its commitment).

  • Increment: The usable, valuable product resulting from a Sprint (with the Definition of Done as its commitment).
